Ingrown toenail?

My dog has an ingrown toenail on her back leg. we have an appointment for the vet on thursday, but is there anything that we can do to help alleviate some of her pain until then?Ingrown toenail?
You cannot just give a dog pills. Even if your doctor says a certain NSAID is ok for dogs, they have to be given a specific dose based on their weight or their livers and/or kidneys could be harmed.

I assume that a nail has made a complete trip back in toward the leg and is digging into the skin. That can happen if it was damaged, is growing at a strange angle or was somehow missed when the nails were trimmed.

Now, as for the pain, demand an appointment today. If the receptionist won't get you in, ask to speak to the office manager. If they still won't see you, go somewhere else.

Now if it is your schedule that is the problem, most vets allow you to drop the pet off early in the morning and pick it up later in the day. Get assurances that they will keep in phone contact with you before they do anything. They can give the dog something for pain before they cut the nail if you ask them to.

If money is the problem, ask them if they will hold a check for a few days.Ingrown toenail?
if the dew claw has grown in the skin or pad try with dog nail clippers to cut it or if you cant see if your vet can see you before Thursday
try giving the dog a warm bath in epsom salts, but make sure he doesn't drink the water, since epsom salts is a laxative.
Do you mean her dew claw? ouch!

Ask your vet if there is any chance you could be seen before thursday.
hot salt water....not scalding hot ,but hot enough to be soothing, soak a hand towel and use it as a compress. It's an old remedy ,but it works very well.
give your dog naproxen (aleve) it will help with the swelling and the pain.. put it in a piece of cheese so he or she will eat it.. and yes it is safe.. you can call your vet they will tell you..
nothing much...Pet store should have puppy aspirin that can help with pain don't use people OTC stuff because your dog can be allergic to it. I would just try to clean the area if possible that's about it.

next time though, keep an eye out on it to make sure the dew claw doesn't get too long...get regular trimming helps...you can do it yourself, take it to the groomer or take it to the vet. If you do try to do it yourself be careful not to cut too much...they have blood vessels in their dew claws too.
