How long will an ingrown toenail take to heal?

Hi, im going on holiday in approx 4 weeks and ive got an ingrown toenail (again!). Ive had one on either big toe before and the left one is sorted but the right one has become ingrown again. If i was to get it cut again how long would it take to heal? I mean the full blown op where you have to get injections. Or would it be wiser to just get it sniped down the side until after the holidays? How long will an ingrown toenail take to heal?
A friend had his done yesterday and is planning to be back at work tomorrow or the day after - although I doubt you will get anyone to deal with it that quickly if you aren;t already on a waiting list. How long will an ingrown toenail take to heal?
If the ingrown toenail is infected (leaking pus, red and painful) I suspect no chiropodist / podiatrist will touch it until it is free from infection. Pop to the doctor and get a set of antibiotics to clear the infection first. Then, go to a podiatrist and get them sorted out. You can have the whole nail taken off and it will not grow back and bother you again. Or you can have slivers snipped off the sides (which it sounds like you have had before). Both will require anaesthetic injections, but in both cases the nails should not be problematic again. A private podiatrist should be able to fit you in fairly quickly, but you'll wait for a while if you choose the NHS. Make sure your podiatrist is state registered (has completed proper training) and if it is done shortly, it should be healed in time for your hols- if you are healthy and heal normally. That salty sea water will help too!! Good luck!
If you have had it done before then you are the best one to judge how long it takes to heal- if it took longer than four weeks i would definitely wait until you return from your hols x
