Is it possible to get rid of ingrown toenail without cutting the nail?

Is there some kind of gel i can just apply until the skin goes back to normal, instead or nail removal. Is it possible to get rid of ingrown toenail without cutting the nail?
An ingrown toenail is just that the corner of the nail grows into the surrounding skin. It is only a rare occurrence that the toenail needs to be removed. And, if you can stand a little pain, you can treat this yourself at home. Soak your foot for at least 30 minutes in hot water (not so hot it burns your skin). Then, gently pull the skin where it is sore and swollen away from the side of the nailbed, Usually, the skin will break when you do this and all the pus will come out. Gently push all the pus out while the skin is still very soft. Do this a couple of times per day and soon, the infection will be gone. If after doing this a day or two it is getting worse and worse instead of better, you will have to see your doctor and he will lance it open then put you on an antibiotic. You can do it either way.
